SHARP
The SHARP families in DOVER seem to come from two distinct roots - mine from the WALTHAM , WYE and HASTINGLEIGH area, near ASHFORD , the other family being from the LITTLEBOURNE area, near CANTERBURY . There is some confusion, because both families have connections with both farming and the sea, and many of the given names are common to both families.
We have traced this line back to Thomas Sharp (c.1721 - 1797) and his wife Mary, both of whom are buried in the churchyard at WALTHAM . We are currently trying to move back another generation.
We have had a number of contacts from other researchers giving us suggestions as to where we might look for the next generation of this family, for which we are most grateful. View Picture of my Grandfather, William George Sharp, from his Identity Card (dated 12th October 1918)
For pictures of my Great Grandfather (also William George), see the Commercial Harbour page under Maritime Dover in the Local History section of this site.
